They Can’t Take That Away From Me
Curated by Jane L. Dulay
They Can’t Take that Away from Me’ came to mind as a way to reconcile the reality of the remaining artists left at 2030 Mandela Parkway coming together in one last exhibition in a space we were destined to lose.
The title is a riff off the song by the Gershwins (no, not JoJo!) at both the sadness at the loss of a grand vision of freedom in creating art in a space and economy not readily accessible to us as artists, and me, in particular, an older emerging artist of color and the joy in knowing we will continue to create art no matter where we are. It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
