About the Work

In Kopf’s research-based multidisciplinary work, she unpacks the hidden history of everyday American leisure culture. Through watercolors, collage, digital illustrations, ceramics, and site-specific vinyl installations, she probes the mythology created by advertising, contrasting facade with fact, sometimes within a single piece. Growing up in 1990s Silicon Valley, a place split between the primordial past and a technological future, her current work evokes a secondhand nostalgia for the built landscapes Americans construct and soon cast aside. Her recent work investigates citrus, a national symbol of bounty and a shorthand for vacation, exploring its sinister labor history and ecological effects.
